Video metadata is not just photo EXIF
Video files use their own containers and metadata fields. The source may include a location, creation time, title or information about the software that made it. Not every video contains the same details, and a clip received from another app may differ from one recorded in Camera.
Select, clean and let the export finish
Open Clean Slate and choose the video from your library. Tap Remove metadata, then allow the export and save to complete. The cleaned result appears as a new item in Photos. Longer clips can take more time to process, so wait for completion before choosing the file to send.
Use the new video from Photos
Keep the source for your own records and share the new copy. Clean Slate exports video to a MOV file without copied metadata. This is a new export, not a promise that every byte, codec or file size will remain identical. Watch the result to check that it suits your intended use.
What can still identify a place or person?
A spoken address, a face, a number plate or a recognisable building remains part of the recording. Metadata cleaning does not mute audio, blur a frame or remove a visible watermark. If those details matter, edit the footage separately and inspect the final exported file.
Clean one clip or a small batch
Five items per month are free, with photos and videos sharing the allowance. Clean Slate Pro supports unlimited cleaning and mixed batches of up to 10 items. Check that each export finishes successfully before sharing a group of clips.
A practical example: a clip for a creator portfolio
Finish your cut, colour work, titles and sound before cleaning the file. Save the finished clip to your library, select it in Clean Slate and let the app create the new export. Play that result from beginning to end before uploading it to your portfolio. This puts the clean after the creative edit, so you are checking the same version that you intend your audience to see.
Why the export may look like a new file
The result is a MOV export. File size, encoding and some technical properties can differ from the source. A valid video still needs information that allows a player to decode its picture and sound, so metadata cleaning does not mean that the file has no technical properties at all. Keep your editing master separately, especially if you need to make another version later.
If the video takes time or fails to save
Wait for the source clip to download if it is stored in iCloud rather than fully available on your phone. Allow the export to finish and check that the device has room for a new file. If a mixed batch fails on one clip, try that clip on its own so you can see its result clearly. Do not delete the original while troubleshooting, and only share a result after the app has confirmed it was saved.
AI-assisted video edits and embedded tags
An AI-assisted edit can leave source tags in a video just as it can in a photograph. Clean Slate can remove removable source metadata, including some embedded AI-related labels. It cannot promise that a platform will classify the clip differently, and it does not remove visible watermarks or alter the way the footage was created.
