Clean Slate is provided by Fear Army Limited, trading as Insane Rabbit Labs. This policy covers the Clean Slate iPhone app, cleanslateprivacy.com and our support correspondence.
Photos and videos stay on your device
You choose specific photos and videos through Apple's system photo picker. Selected files may contain personal information in their content and embedded metadata, including location, capture dates, camera details and editing history. Clean Slate processes those files on your iPhone. The app does not upload your media or its metadata to us or to a processing service.
The app has no account, advertising, third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not sell personal information.
Permissions and your choices
The system photo picker gives the app access to the items you select, rather than unrestricted access to your library. When you save a cleaned copy, Clean Slate requests add-only Photos permission. Without that permission, it cannot save the result. You can change permission in iPhone Settings.
Clean Slate saves a separate copy and leaves your original unchanged. You decide which copy to share. Your iCloud Photos settings may download originals or sync saved copies independently of Clean Slate. We do not control Apple's syncing or a recipient's handling of media you share.
Processing, temporary files and local preferences
Photo cleaning creates a new JPEG from the image pixels. By default, source metadata is not copied. Pro users can choose to keep supported metadata groups when cleaning a single photo, including location data. Kept fields remain in that copy. Video cleaning creates a new MOV export without intentionally copying source metadata.
Working copies are held in the app's temporary storage on your device. The app attempts to remove them after a successful save, when you select new media, and after certain failures. An interrupted operation can leave temporary files until the app or iOS removes them. Saved copies stay in Photos until you delete them, including from Recently Deleted if you want to remove them permanently. Deleting Clean Slate removes its local app storage, but does not delete items already saved to Photos or synced to iCloud.
The app stores the current allowance month and the number of successful free cleans in local preferences. It reads verified Apple purchase entitlements to determine Pro access. These values are not sent to us by the app.
Usable files still contain technical information such as dimensions and encoding details. Cleaning does not remove visible or audible identifying details, watermarks or every possible provenance or detection signal. It cannot control labels or records held separately by a publishing platform.
Apple services
Apple handles App Store downloads, payments, purchase restoration and subscription management under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not receive your payment card details. Depending on your Apple settings, Apple may provide aggregated app statistics or crash and performance reports. These are separate from the media you select for cleaning.
Website and photo checker
The website does not include advertising trackers or third-party analytics scripts. Our hosting and infrastructure providers, including Vercel and Cloudflare, may process ordinary request information such as IP addresses, requested URLs and browser details to deliver and protect the website. This website processing is separate from the app's on-device media processing.
The photo metadata checker reads the file you choose in your browser. It does not upload the file or its extracted metadata, or deliberately save them in browser storage. Clear the result or close the tab to remove it from the tool's active view. The checker inspects supported fields; a missing field does not prove the file contains no metadata.

Your privacy rights
You can request access, correction or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and exercise other applicable rights such as restriction, portability or objection. We cannot retrieve or delete media that remains solely on your device or in your Apple services.
You can raise a concern with the UK's Information Commissioner's Office or your local data protection authority. Clean Slate is a general utility. If a child has sent personal information to support, please contact us so we can review it and remove it where appropriate.
